THE KUTUBU LLG in the Nipa-Kutubu district, Southern Highlands, received nearly half a million kina for school projects from MP Jeffery Komal last Friday.
To witness the special occasion, thousands of people lined the main roads and grandstand, cheered, waved and applauded Komal and his party. Komal told the crowds that he was there for the opening of funded classrooms and to give funds to some schools that are still holding classes under makeshift classrooms built from bush materials He presented K50,000 to Kutubu High School, which earlier received K80,000 for the construction of a dormitory. Komal said the school, which was important for the people of Kutubu, Bosave and other districts, needed to improve its infrastructures. He presented K100,000 each to Bakuale and Tenuga and K130,000 to Fukumaiyu Primary School, respectively to build classrooms. Komal gave a cheque for K100,000 for the upgrade of a feeder road to the village of Barudage and nearby areas. “Not even a single elementary school will miss out from funding. I have to give to those ones in dire needs first before reaching out to others.” “But whatever funding I make to government institutions, every toea must be accounted for and quality work must be shown,” he said. Komal said he will visit the LLG again next month to see the health facilities. Kutubu High School chairman Dabura Kamuna said students were seen sleeping on the rooftop of the bush material dorms. He said it was too risky for the student to do that. Kamuna said the high school benefited thousands of people, adding that the facilities should have been improved long ago but due to the negligence of the elected MPs, it remained stagnant. “I am pleased with the funding from MP Komal. “With the money, we built a dormitory for more than 50 and we will turn over it to you in September for the official opening,” Kamuna said.
