KOKOPO Secondary School, one of the biggest in East New Britain, held a graduation for 700 students on Thursday. The 450 Grade 10s and 250 Grade 12s graduated in high spirits and celebrated with their families at the school. ENB Governor and Kokopo MP Ereman ToBaining Jr, who also witnessed his son Junior graduate with a Grade 12 certificate, told the gathering that the school had undergone one of the fastest development phases in the province with new infrastructure. “This year marks the end of the refocused alignment and development exercise of the school under the strategic development plan 2011- 2016,” he said. “We have given the chance with regards to increase in demand to provide quality education for our children.” ToBaining said this indicated that the provincial government saw education as its priority. He saluted the school principal, Paul Raia, staff and students for their achievement in the improved rating index. The recently completed new administration building cost K500, 000. He also thanked the host communities of Vunamami and Karavi wards for hosting the school since it was established as a high school in 1971 and became a secondary school in 2004.
