He said the policy has enormous impact on the education of the students Member for Moresby North East John Kaupa has applauded the National Government’s continuous support and funding for the Tuition Fee Free policy. He said the policy has enormous impact on the education of the students. Mr Kaupa was responding to the 2017 and 2018 TFF summary payment report on schools in National Capital District by Education Secretary Dr Uke Kombra last week. “Although the economic situation that we are facing has forced everyone to dig deep into our pockets, our Government has relieved many of our parents by continuously supporting free education for all our children,” he said. “Education and health has always been a top priority for this Government and that is evident in the increasing number of student enrolment figures in schools and increasing number of patients receiving treatments in all our clinics and health centresthroughout the country.” “I thank the Minister for Education Nick Kuman and his Education Secretary Dr Uke Kombra for ensuring the funds are processed on time to ensure school received its funding,” Mr Kaupa said. “In the National Capital District we have a total of 42 elementary, 38 primary/community schools, 10 high/secondary schools, 1 National High school, 5 vocational,1 Fode, 4 inclusive education and 17 permitted schools with a total enrolment of 110,810 students. “Last year the Education Department paid a total of K23, 887,123.71 to all our schools in the National Capital District. This is a huge investment to the future of our students, and I must commend the National Government for its investment in education in the Moresby North East district and the National Capital District,” he said. “This year, according to the 2018 Total Tuition Fee Free for National Capital District released by the Education Department for the first quarter, a total enrolment of 94,693 students in 96 schools have received a total of K 4,675,792.94.” “My Administration has also launched our 5 year development plan for the Moresby North District last Month,” he said. “And now we are working in collaboration with the National Capital District Commission under the leadership of Governor Powes Parkop, and the Department of Education in achieving some of the infrastructure development in all our schools in the city,” he said. “Every year and quarterly we have seen and read about schools in the country not receiving their funds on time and the increasing number of student enrollment. “But these are all manageable and administrative issues that each school can sort it out with their respective school inspectors. We must all appreciate the fact that our Government has taken priority on education and invested billions on Kina on that sector alone. “The onus now is on the students to be committed to their education and receive positive results,” Mr Kaupa, also the Minister for Housing said.
