The pathway in attending tertiary institutions in Indonesia is a realization unfolding for students attending Juha College – TVET Secondary School in Port Moresby that take up Bahasa language as a syllabus in its teaching curriculum. In a recent visit to the school by the Embassy of The Republic of Indonesia’s Education and Culture Attaché Achmand Tavid Syah, he said the learning Bahasa is very important as it creates the opening for students to learn the cultures and traditions of Indonesia. My Syah said an Information Technology (IT) teacher from Indonesia would be brought in to teach IT lessons in Bahasa, to boost the competency in learning Bahasa. Mr Syah told the students that Indonesia has a culture of sharing and caring in all family circles and urged the students that learning Bahasa will give them that opportunity to discover the cultures and traditions of Indonesia. He encouraged the students to follow the footsteps of Theresa Joku from PNG who will shortly leave the shores of this country at the end of August to take up one year study in Indonesia. Joku was selected after her submitted application was accepted by the Indonesian Embassy through the Embassy’ website link. School principal Mikus Lapan thanked the Indonesian Embassy saying the invitation has created a window of opportunity for students to interact with and learn the cultures and traditions of their neighbouring country Indonesia. He said the global interaction to understand the cultures and traditions of different nations of the world has gone thinner in a sense that there is no soluble pathway to make direct connections with the outside world. He said through the school’s initiative, they cultured adapting a foreign language to provide students the opportunity to connect with the outside world like their neighbouring country Indonesia. Mr Syah acknowledged the administration of the school especially, the school director John Sekewa in his edge in adopting the Bahasa language as a syllabus to be taught apart from the National Department of Education’s standard curriculums. The Bahasa language is thought by West Papuan and now PNG citizen Manase Lockbre. He is registered with the National Department of Education.
