The Jimi District administration in Jiwaka has paid K84, 700 for its students attending the Simbu Teachers College in Chimbu. Jimi District Administrator Petrus Kam handed over a cheque of that amount to college principle Clement Kaupa in Mt Hagen on Tuesday. Jimi MP told the media that this was his way of bringing much needed education to the remote mountain district. “This program is aimed at creating Jimi bred teachers who are comfortable with coming back to their district to give something back to their electorate,” said District Administrator Kam. He stated that 12 students have been selected or the scholarship and that this number will increase as the year’s progress. He said that education is one of the key areas that has been lacking in the Jimi District and that this was one of the ways that the provincial as well as local level government were looking at addressing this issue. The 12 students will begin studies next year in Chimbu with all expenses paid for by the Jimi District Administration.
