HIGHER Education Minister Malakai Tabar has highlighted the importance of higher education in Papua New Guinea.
He stressed that during his Ministerial Statement on Higher Education to Parliament on Wednesday. Tabar said the Government had given the highest support so far to the higher education sector. “The higher education sector has seen an increase in its budget since this government took office,” he said. “Benjamin Franklin (rightly said many decades ago that ‘investment in education pays the best interest’. “Indeed, this is the best investment that cannot be matched by other investments made by this government. “Over the long term, the only way we are going to raise wages, grow the economy and improve Papua New Guinea’s competitiveness is by investing in our people – especially their education.” Tabara said education was the driving force of the 21st century and PNG must be up to APEC standards, hence, a number of key reforms and achievements.
