Thomas Yangas, the headmaster of Waksarik Primary School in rural Madang was murdered by what appeared to be a premeditated killing by some elements of a cult movement followers in the area All indications point to the acts being cold blooded and intentional as the victim’s skull was cracked in half with a sharp instrument and his brain was removed; and his heart was also removed. Some recent police cases coming from this area have shown to be of similar nature to what has happened in this instant where victims’ body parts like brains and hearts of the mutilated bodies were removed and taken for sacrificial purposes. In this instance, the merciless, horendous murder case has every sign of a premeditated murder with plans put in train to remove vital organs of the brain and heart parts for cult practices. This particular practice has in recent past has received much national attention, even outrage. The death occurred when the little known Waksarik Primary School was about to celebrate the end of the year, following graduation of first ever grade eight which was a milestone for the deceased since his appointment in 2015. Mr Yangas was murdered on Dec 22, 2016. Of the thirty six years of his teaching career since graduating from Dauli Teachers College in 1978, headmaster Yangas has made 19 of those years as a headmaster in schools in East Sepik, Eastern Highlands, Morobe, and most recently Madang provinces. The late Thomas Yangas came from a small hamlet of Duakap in the village of Waskuk; and of the Hunguama Society of the Kwoma speaking people that occupy the mountains behind Ambunti, the district headquarters of Ambunti-Drekikier Electorate in East Sepik.
