THE Government will pay K64 million of the tuition-free fee subsidy soon into schools’ accounts to complete the academic year, Acting Education Secretary Dr Uke Kombra says.
“A total budget appropriation of K605 million was received by the Department of Education (DoE) from the Government for this year’s tuition-free fee policy,” Kombra said. “A total of K472 million has already been paid and just recently K69 million was paid into school accounts.” He said the balance of K64 million would be released to schools before the closure of the academic year in December. “The TFF funds cover for 1,898,469 students in 10,232 schools around the country,” he said. Kombra said schools which missed out on the TFF fund last year would be paid this year because the remaining budget of the TFF, at the end of the year, was returned to the Government’s account. “The DoE has not made any commitment to pay schools, but only to schools that are genuine like in Tapini, Central. “Before the end of the schooling year, they should receive their TFF fund,” Kombra said.
