The Goilala District Administration is adamant to change the face of its crime-infested district, through education.
Since last week, the local MP has visited several schools in the nation’s capital, Central and Madang Province, to pay school fees for over 100 students, valued at over one million kina.
Mr. Mona said education is the key to change Goilala for the better.
This is the second year the Goilala District Administration has subsidized school fees for some of its students in various schools in Port Moresby, Central and Madang Province.
Since last week, the local MP and his officers have visited the Port Moresby Matriculation school, and assisted twenty students, Koki TVET – 40 students, Hohola Youth Development Centre – 55 students, Kivori and the University of Papua New Guinea – 38 students, and Divine Word in Madang.
Local MP, Daniel Mona urged the students to do their best and be ambassadors of the Goilala people.
Mr. Mona said Goilala is in desperate need of an educated population to move the district forward and contribute to nation building.
The students are beneficiaries of the Louis Mona Foundation. They promised to do their best and make Goilala and the country proud.
The district’s reputation has been tarnished with news of increase law and order problems and lack of services, driving public servants away.
Mr. Mona assured students and parents that the drive to support students’ fees will continue.
He said the district administration also supports the foundation’s aim to educate more Goilala men and women.
