With the festive season fast approaching, a number of teachers fronted up at the counter’s at the National Department of education office, Waigani, venting their frustrations.
The school year has been over for three weeks now and many of those present, had been hoping to be back in their respective destinations for the holidays. But the main concern has been the lack of communication between the provincial and national departments, resulting in a chaotic process, rather than one that could have easily been sorted. In an interview, Dr. Michael Tapo, Secretary for Education had stated that all issues with teacher’s leave pay and entitlements, should have already been completed, even going on to state that in terms of processing claims, August had been the targeted month. With all government accounts closed down during the festive period, there was a high degree of uncertainty over whether teachers, would actually receive anything at all. One teacher Wayne Tumange vented his frustration openly while another, Theodore Biasi, was more reserved. Both however said the same thing. Christmas would not be merry. Comments are closed.
