Papua New Guinea’s first-ever Teachers Expo in Port Moresby brought together over 40 institutions, organizations, and civil society groups to promote teaching careers and highlight the importance of the profession. A key announcement at the event was the launch of a new Diploma in Teaching Primary, aimed at upskilling existing teachers and bringing new educators up to standard. The program was jointly unveiled by the Minister for Higher Education, Research, Science, and Technology, Hon. Kinoka Hotune Feo, Minister for Education, Hon. Lucas Dawa Dekena, and Australia’s Minister for International Development and the Pacific, Hon. Pat Conroy MP. Australia will fund the first 400 teachers to go through this new diploma program, as part of their commitment to strengthening education in PNG. "We must all work together if we are going to upskill the many thousands of teachers in PNG," said Conroy, emphasizing the need for collaboration between national and provincial governments, donor partners, civil society, and the private sector.
The new initiative aligns with Australia’s increased investment in Papua New Guinea’s education sector, with 260 million kina (100 million Australian dollars) allocated annually over the next four years to support education development in the country. Also read Comments are closed.
