A 16-year-old school girl accused of practising cult actitivies was gang-raped by boys from her school and later bashed by fellow girls.
Morobe police Commander Chief Supt Kaiglo Ambane said the girl was confronted by some male students and accused of being involved in a cult. The girl was frightened and tried to hide but was cornered by four male students and raped before one of her attackers escorted her to the PMV bus stop to send her home, police said. However, some school girls noticed her and bashed her up, causing grievous bodily harm and later took her to the school administration. The girl suffered serious cuts to her body and was helped by teachers to Bulolo Hospital for treatment. Suspects involved in sexually assaulting the girl have been identified and will be arrested by police when the victim recovers. Ambane urged students in the province who may have information about cult groups operating in schools to inform authorities. “My advice is that in such a situation where students notice their fellow students practicing cults in their schools, not to take the law into their hands but let the school administration and police deal with them,” Ambane said.
