ERAVE High School in Southern Highlands, which will soon become a secondary school, received K400,000 from the National Government last December to improve its facilities
Erave High School is one of the four new declared secondary schools in the province to cater for the increasing number of students. Principal Patrick Yamu said the school was in the process of upgrading its facilities and the funding was timely. He said Governor William Powi, after seeing the huge increase in the number of students, declared several high schools and secondary schools and provided resources for the schools. “I am pleased that the O’Neill Government is doing much to improve the education standard in the country,” he said. “In addition to what the Government is doing, Governor Powi has done much to support the free education policy.” He thanked Kagua-Erave project coordinator Ezekiel Kipe for presenting the money on behalf of the national and provincial governments. He added that Kagua-Erave was one of the least developed districts in Papua New Guinea but was changing because of a good government. Mendi and Kutubu High Schools had their first Grade 11 intakes last year and Kaupena and Erave would be secondary schools depending on planning system in order to cater for the increasing number of students. Powi had announced that there was sudden increase of students and there were limited high and secondary schools in the province. “Since, there is huge increase in the number of students, five new high schools have been declared, which are Kero in the Imbonggu district, Kip and Karinz in the Mendi-Munihu district, Nembi-Pletau in Nipa-Kutubu and Kuare High School in the Kagua-Erave district,” he said. He said the high and secondary schools would receive funding from the national and provincial government to improve their infrastructure. Comments are closed.
