THE EQUITV In-Service Committee recently conducted the Trainer of Trainee (TOT) workshop on the utilisation of EQUITV programme in Morobe schools. Sixty participants – district education managers, senior standard officers, head teachers and senior teachers – from the nine districts attended.
Morobe administrator Geoving Belong challenged the district authorities to uphold their roles and responsibilities in devising plans and implementing programmes accordingly. EQUITV programme tries to enhance quality in teaching and learning through television and related multimedia to reach out to remote schools. Belong was critical over the academic performance in the province where the provincial mean rating index (MRI) showed that Morobe was rated 40% among other provinces and therefore this workshop is timely for everyone. The EQUITV TOT workshop is being conducted in other provinces to train teachers on how to utilise the television programmes that are broadcast daily on EMTV. The EQUITV programme stands for “Enhancing Quality In Teaching and Learning Through Television”. The Department of Education fully supports this new initiative in learning motivates students’ participation in class while at the same time providing education services to the remote parts of the country that are difficult to reach.Geoving Belong acknowledged the technical expertise of Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and the Department of Education for the EQUITV programme initiative and said that Morobe province could benefit in the EQUITV to improve the academic results of students when fully implemented.
