EDUCATION Acting Secretary Dr Uke Kombra has advised schools that the remaining K49.6 million in tuition fee-free (TFF) allocation for 2015 was paid into their bank accounts last Wednesday.
Kombra said schools banking with BSP should have received their allocations on that day. Schools banking with Westpac and ANZ should have received their payment on Thursday or Friday. The department was supposed to make the payments last December but held them back because the schools were closing for the Christmas holidays. Meanwhile, he said last Friday the TFF was one of the five priorities for the department this year. “In 2016, we want to see that TFF continues to be implemented effectively from the Government to the department and to the schools,” Kombra said. “We must aim to ensure the TFF that the Government provides goes to the school and makes the difference at the school level.” The second priority is the Standard-Based Curriculum through the Standard-Based Education system. “We will continue to implement the SBC this year, we have commenced with elementary and this year we are going to move on to the primary grade three to five,” he said. The third priority is to see that standards in teachers’ education and quality are improved. The fourth priority is providing service. “We must ensure this year that we serve our teachers’ welfare, entitlements, salaries and look at how we can improve our teachers’ terms and conditions,” he said. Kombra said they must ensure that whatever service they gave students must improve “in terms of what they should get in classroom, the teaching that they receive must be of a high standard”. 2017 newly intakes at Gaulim Teachers College,those that have scored the GPA of 2-2.3 were on HECAS earlier but after the registration they were regard to as Self Sponsor.…How does this happen? Can you explain it ?
