NEW reforms in the education system will further increase the workload of teachers, a concerned teachers’ union executive says.
Papua New Guinea Teachers Association (PNGTA) Highlands regional secretary John Melson said that it was good that the Government came up with a lot of reforms but questioned where all the children would go after Grade 12. “There will be a big number of students into secondary and primary schools with the free education policy,” Melson said. He said that with the big number of students, teachers would be overloaded with work and this could affect their learning. Melson said that the Government had to have a proper plan before implementing such policies. He also said that the Government needed to provide more funds to technical vocational education training (TVET) institutions to accommodate students dropping out from the formal education system.
