Education Secretary Doctor Michael Tapo has officially endorsed four new course materials to be used in teacher training institutions.
The course materials, called Language Support Program (LSP), have two sets, lecture guides and student teacher workbooks.
Doctor Tapo launched these courses today at the PNG Education Institute.
These four course materials were developed by PNG lecturers, with assistance from the Volunteer Services Overseas (VSO), an international NGO.
The courses were designed to improve the standard of English language teaching skills for new graduate teachers.
It will be printed and delivered to all teachers colleges, ready to use next year.
During the launch, Doctor Tapo stressed the importance of reading, saying it will be prioritised by next year.
The Education Institute’s Team Coordinator for the language support program, Micheal Foster, said the materials were developed in accordance to PNG context, allowing two-way exchanges of skills and knowledge.
PNGEI Director, Doctor Zui Neofa, said the strands outlined in the book were about grammar, reading, listening and speaking.
He said materials must be made available for better teaching and learning to take effect.
Doctor Tapo thanked VSO volunteers for assisting in developing the course materials. EMTV
