The Department of Education has established regional hotline numbers and an email address for stakeholders to report schools that are charging fees. This was done after reports that some schools are collecting fees for projects, uniforms, bond fees, ID Cards etc. This is unlawful and you are directed to immediately cease collection of any form of fees from the parents upon receipt of this direction. The departments also warns schools not to withhold any certificates for failure to pay any form of schools fees. The name of the school, province and the district; The name of the principal or head teacher; The type of fee the school is charging, and; The amount that is being charged. In response to any complaints, the department will take adequate action by suspending the principal or head teacher concerned and instigate an immediate investigation. Tuition fee free funding from the government will also be suspended during the inquiry. Meanwhile, Education secretary, Dr Uke Kombra, has sent a circular to school authorities not to charge any fees. He said there were reports of schools charging various fees which was unlawful and instructed them to stop immediately. Dr Kombra also called on school inspectors to monitor schools and take appropriate action. Any defiance to comply with this instruction will be result in the principal's immediate suspension. School boards will also be suspended if they do not comply accordingly.
