THE Government will stop students who are involved in cult groups or in illegal activities from entering universities.
The decision was reached between the Minister of Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology Malakai Tabar and the Minister for Education Nick Kuman. Principals in secondary schools and the six national high schools will provide a list of students who are members of cult groups, are involved in school fights or in the burning down of infrastructure, and for sabotaging services. Tabar said that last Friday at the University of Technology in Lae. “Every secondary school principal and national high school principal must submit the names of those students that have been involved in fights,” he said. “No university should accept any student who has been involved in fights because we cannot afford to transfer that culture into our higher learning institutions.” Tabar has warned that it would be hard for universities to handle cult problems and fighting in secondary schools. Student leaders from universities invited to the event welcomed the idea.
