CARITAS Technical Secondary School in Port Moresby has recently celebrated its 19th Cultural Day.
School principal Esther Mwayemwana said the event was to help the students maintain their cultural heritage as well as raise funds for school projects and events. She added that the goal this year was raise funds for a K10 million sports gymnasium, which could be used for the 2015 Pacific Games. The festivities included performances by 20 dance groups, including a Philippines dance troupe, martial arts displays by students and a Miss Tumbuna Bilas quest. Mwayemwana said the celebration has always been different every year as students try to provide different and unique performances from previous years. Special guest, Mosresby South MP and Minister for Sports, Pacific Games and National Events, Justin Tkatchenko, commended the students for their impressive cultural performances. He praised Caritas for providing a wide range of courses for the students. Tkatchenko said he has made education a priority for the electorate. “As Moresby South Member, I have sponsored more than 150 students from this school so that this electorate is educated and we have a productive electorate for this city,” he said. The National Comments are closed.
