SCHOOL will be starting in a few weeks and parents should start preparing to buy uniforms and stationery to avoid the last minute rush.
Owner of Tango, Nellie Tan who is a big supplier of school uniforms in Port Moresby, is calling on parents start to preparing now to solve problems like shortages of uniforms and long frustrating lines. “The main problem we encounter here are the long lines and frustrated parents,” she said. “In 2-3 weeks time, this small showroom will be fully packed and most of our uniforms will run out as usual, and this always frustrates customers.” Even though the company has two garment factories in the country and overseas, they still experience a shortage due to the wrong information sent to them from schools. She said, apart from the long frustrating lines, they had other complaints like no particular sizes for some children. “Not all children are the same – some have a bigger built for their age and some have a smaller built,” Tan said. “So if you have experienced a problem in the previous years where none of the uniforms here fit your children, bring them here so we can take their measurements to sew accordingly” she said. Tango distributes uniforms in bulk to the schools according to orders. They provide uniforms for all the schools in the Nation’s Capital and a few schools in Central. Meanwhile, when The National visited several stationery outlets in the capital like Seeto Kui, Theodist and City Pharmacy Ltd, parents were seen shopping for their children’s supplies while some have rearranged their showrooms in preparation for the new school year.
