Bribery and Nepotism Alleged in Removal of Ms. Tandoa as Gerehu Secondary School Deputy Head Teacher1/24/2025
The Teaching Service Commission (TSC) of Papua New Guinea has announced it will conduct a thorough investigation into the recent dismissal of Elizabeth Tandoa, the Deputy Head Teacher for Human Resources at Gerehu Secondary School. The decision to remove Tandoa from her position has sparked protests from both students and parents, who allege that bribery and nepotism were involved in her dismissal. On Wednesday, 22nd January, students and parents gathered in protest, demanding Tandoa’s reinstatement. They claimed that her removal was not based on merit but rather the result of corrupt practices, including bribery and nepotism. The protest raised concerns about fairness and transparency within the education sector. In response to these allegations, NCD Education Service First Assistant Secretary, Peter Kants, rejected the claims of corruption. Kants affirmed that the correct processes and procedures had been followed in Tandoa’s dismissal. He stated that she had been found to have occupied her position without merit, and the decision was made in accordance with the established guidelines for the teaching service.
Chairman of the Teaching Service Commission, Samson Wangihomie, addressed the concerns raised by the community, confirming that a full investigation would be carried out. Wangihomie assured both students and parents that the facts surrounding Tandoa’s dismissal would be thoroughly examined. He emphasized that if any evidence of bribery or nepotism was uncovered, severe measures would be taken against those responsible. The investigation into the dismissal of Elizabeth Tandoa is expected to bring clarity to the situation and restore confidence in the procedures used for staff management within the education sector. Both the TSC and the public await the outcome of the inquiry to determine whether any wrongdoing occurred in the handling of her removal. Also read
