WITH the challenge of unpredicted turn of events in the resource industry, the Porgera gold mine facilitated the delivery of the ‘bright future’ training.
The training was delivered by Entrepreneurial Development Training Centre (EDTC) Master Trainer Dr Paul Wiau at the Porgera mine site in May. EDTC is an organization registered with the National Training Council and provides training programmes targeted at improving the lives of the unemployed. Wiau said bright future referred to prosperity and success in whatever form or environment one undertook, knowing how to effectively use the tangible and intangible resources available to achieve success. “You have to think about your future now while you have a paid job...anything can happen. You have to develop a mindset that ultimately wants to attain self-reliance...you being your own boss,” he said “What is more important is how you use your resources. Your brain is the greatest of resources available and if you don’t know how to use your brain to become successful, that in itself is worse than being financially poor.” The training covered four components under the bright future training package. Component one covered ‘planning for a bright future’, which was basically about preparation and setting goals. The second focused on the ‘use of tangible and intangible resources’ identifying these resources and making a stock take of those that can be used to achieve goals for a bright future. Component three looked at ‘learning for a bright future’ what someone had to learn that was relevant to personal goals for a bright future. The training also covered ‘performing for a bright future’, preparing for viable projects and ‘saving for a bright future, that would help the grassroots.
