It was really a proud moment for the 179 students who graduated with flying colours at the Australia Pacific Technical College (APTC) yesterday.
Graduands were truly proud and thanked the Australian Government for giving this opportunity to broaden their skills and knowledge right at their home rather than going to Australia. College Chief Executive Officer Denise O’Brien told the graduands this is your day and you have demonstrated courage, hard work and dedication to your learning. He said as a result you have been awarded an Australian vocational qualification that is recognised nationally and internationally. The APTC goal is to support a more prosperous Pacific driven by a skilled, competitive and productive workforce and we achieve this through quality, relevance, sustainability and employment O’Brien said: “We trust that you have not only acquire skills and knowledge to equip you well for your employment but you leave this training experience with new professional friendships. “APTC trust that this is just the beginning and that you will continue to be the best you can be in your chosen career.’’ She added, the long term success of APTC in Papua New Guinea would be measured by the success of its citizens who are our graduates, their future employers and communities. “APTC partners with employers and industries, we are demand driven that is we offer courses to develop real skills for real jobs so important to economic, social and cultural prosperity,” she said. APTC graduand Stanley Avarui said: “We are very thankful for APTC for the opportunity at our door step rather than going to Australia .Learning here is very practical to Papua New Guinea situation. “:We have learn a lot and we are now ready to contribute more back to our respective organisation. “Our concern now is we want the government to work in partnership with the school to offer diploma courses because right now the school is only offering certificate courses.’’ The 179 students graduated in Certificate III in Carpentry, Commercial Cookery, Community Service Work, Children’s Services, Electro-technology Electrician, Engineering-Fabrication Trade, Engineering mechanical trade, Home and Community Care and Hospitality. O’Brien said the graduates will now be able to get emploeyd by any organisation in the country that requires such skills and trades.
