TO strengthen education cooperation between the governments of Indonesia and Papua New Guinea, this year the Indonesian Government provides Darmasiswa scholarship for 10 youths of PNG consist of four scholarships awarded through the Indonesian Embassy in Port Moresby and six given through the Indonesian Consulate in Vanimo.
Four youths of PNG were accepted to study Indonesian language.
They are Joannne Haro of Lion Morata Vocational Training Centre, accepted at the University of Surakarta in Surakarta; Steven Likas, a UPNG student was accepted at Jakarta State University; Taina David Koal, a student at the Pacific Adventist University accepted at the Indonesia Education University, Bandung; and Johnson Wariak, a recent graduate from high school, accepted at Muhammadiyah University of Makassar.
There are six scholarship recipients through the Indonesian consulate in Vanimo – Celine Wanga accepted at the Polytechnic of Jakarta (Indonesian language); Daniel Siaguru at Padjadjaran University in Bandung (language); Agustine Pohu at the Computer College Cirebon (computer engineering); David Hwadin at the Computer College Cirebon (computer engineering); Lemech at the Computer College Cirebon (computer engineering); and Hamilton Annek at Muhammadiyah University Malang (language).
Awardees of the scholarships will leave for Indonesia in September and the programmes will run for either six or 12 months.
The participants will participate in the pre-departure training for about one month to learn basic Indonesian language.
The total number of Darmasiswa scholarships that have been awarded since 1975 reached 40 this year.
Another non-degree scholarship offered by the Indonesian government is the Indonesia Arts and Culture (IAC) scholarship with the duration of three months.
Meanwhile, the Indonesian Government also provides scholarships for undergraduate, master and doctoral degrees
