THREE women are among the first batch of 50 Correctional Services officers who underwent a month-long induction course under the Queensland Correctional Academy syllabus.
The 50 were recently promoted to the rank of Inspector in March. They graduate today from the Correctional Services Training College. The three women joined the service in 1981 and served a total of 90 years. Correctional Service Commissioner Michael Waipo said the inspectors would service as front-line managers using their experience and knowledge to instill discipline, morale and work ethics to the service. The inspectors include young and old officers with educational qualifications ranging from Grade Eight to diploma and degree graduates. Chief Instructor Superintendent David Suagu said the certificate course would be linked to a Diploma in Correctional Service Management programme. Acting Assistant Commissioner finance and administration Michael Mosiri said other courses included the officers bridging course, officer cadet course and recruit training. “The training will help the Correctional Service to perform to the expectation,” Waipo said. “As a state agency, the training for our officers is a bonus fopr us to operate this entity.” He urged officers to uphold professionalim.
