THE university students are claiming to be fighting for the silent majority of Papua New Guineans.
They are sacrificing their studies to rescue this nation by putting up slogans such as “Take back PNG” and UPNG & UOT 4 PNG”. They are even going to the provinces and some were stopped by police to stage protests and several of them caused a major riot in Wabag town, Enga, where business properties were damaged. The students are flying in and out of Port Moresby at will and I am suspicious about where they are getting their funds. Are these so-called student leaders really fighting for this nation or are trying to put their hands in the political figures pockets? It’s clear that these students are funded by some politicians and they are jeopardizing the education of all university students. Some of them are excluded from their studies and flucked their studies while some are outsiders. These hardline students seem to be getting funds from undisclosed sources on the pretext of fighting corruption thus putting the genuine student’s education at risk The UPNG senate suspended semester one for indefinite period on May 24 and two days later Opposition Leader Don Polye visited the campus. I don’t know Poilye’s motive for the visit but it is obvious he supports the students’ actions. Are we really fighting for this country or serving few individuals interest? Come on university students, you are already compromised so leave the politics to politicians and go back to classes. Education Seeker UPNG, Waigani
