WITH less than a week to go before the new academic year begins, hundreds of students attending preparations to enter studies at the Christian Education and Training Institute, Wewak Christian College, a private run institution in Wewak, may not start classes as the school has run short of money, the National reports.
Director Thompson Benguma said he would need at least K50,000 to pay for the outstanding property rental and other incidentals before classes could resume. “We have ended up with this problem after 12 years of existence because the management had been too soft with parents last year,” he said. “The school has a very good record of educating over 600 students phased out by the formal system of education. They are now teachers, lawyers, engineers and technical people in various fields. “I am therefore appealing to the East Sepik provincial government and national MPs to acknowledge our contribution to the human resource development in the province and come to our aid,” Benguma said. He added that the landlord of the property, that they were renting had given them until this year to relocate and he would need additional funding of K200,000 to build a new four-in-one double classroom on a piece of land he hoped to secure in a few months. Benguma said he needed K250,000 to offset outstanding liabilities and start construction on a new campus and he desperately needed the support of provincial leaders. Benguma can be contacted on 7054 1140. Comments are closed.
