THE proposed-university of the Western Pacific is a “ministerial commitment” from the Prime Minister Peter O’Neill and will be completed in 2017.
Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology Minister Malakai Tabar said that when asked to give an update on the progress. “The designs and the planning are already completed but we are still going on with some process at the moment,” Tabar said. “We are in discussion with the landowners to buy the portion of land for the proposed site of the university. Soon the purchase will take place and the Ialibu-Pangia district development authority are facilitating it.” He said the planning and designs had gone through the Central Supply and Tenders Board and once a contractor was secured and the land bought, ground work would start. He was not able to disclose the total cost of construction saying it was too early and confidential.
