Classes at the Vanimo Secondary School resumed on Tuesday, after an agreement was reached between local landowners and government officials. The school was forced into closure last Friday, over a K12m compensation demand from the Wasine Clan of Ningera village. The compensation relates to a portion of land which hosts the Vanimo Secondary School, the Pasi DPI Station and houses belonging to staff of the Forestry Department. West Sepik Provincial Administrator, Henry Norm, chaired a meeting this week, which provided a leeway for the Vanimo Secondary School to re-open. The meeting resolved that landowners submitting their claims to the provincial lands office from 6th September onwards to be processed, investigate the first payment of K2.1m paid to a certain Ningera landowner, and for landowners not to disrupt state institutions like schools.
