The two-day convention on Tuesday and Wednesday has picked the theme: “Pacific Games 2015: Cascading for tourism development in PNG.” The convention draws the participation of the public and private sector, and non- government organisations. Head of the tourism and hospitality management division Dr Joyce Rayel said the students had chosen the theme to prepare the country for one of the biggest sporting events. “To make this event successful, stakeholders particularly residents should fully understand its impacts to the economy and how the event will lift the country’s image. “This is to introduce sports tourism in PNG as one of the country’s tourism products that needs to be developed and promoted,” she said. Enga Governor Peter Ipatas is expected to open it, with Culture and Tourism Minister Boka Kondra address the conference on the second and final day. Other guests are Peter Stewart from Pacific Games Office and Alcinda Trawen from Tourism Promotion Authority. The event output will be part of students’ external assessment for the course.
