University of Goroka chancellor Joseph Sukwianomb tells students to Understand the issues5/19/2016 UNIVERSITY of Goroka chancellor Joseph Sukwianomb has advised executives of the new Student Representative Council to properly understand issues and their implications before boycotting classes. “For UOG students to step into the queue of boycotting students from the other three universities will be really non-consequential since the support and impact this might have on the national front is already subsiding,” he said. “In any case, the 2016 UOG academic year had a slow start this semester and all students are required to catch up.” He said any decision to boycott classes now “is not in the best interest of students and their sponsors, including parents.” The new executive members of the student council were sworn in at the university campus in Goroka. He said it saw the re-election of Chris Ambai as president. Sukwianomb and his management team have been in constant dialogue with the SRC executives over the weekend. Meanwhile, National Capital District-Central police commander Sylvester Kalaut said police would arrest people involved in illegal gatherings and marches in Port Moresby. Kalaut also advised non-government organisations and civil society groups to consider the rights of others in light of the current political situation. “Every citizen of this country has a right including civil society groups. If they have to organise for people to follow them to pursue their agenda, they have to respect the rights of others as well,” Kalaut said.
