UNITED Nation is not only for humanitarian work but also diplomacy.
That was the message given to the Port Moresby National High School students last week during the UN school visits. The visits conducted by UN officials were about informing students of its existence and its numerous humanitarian and diplomacy work. UN Communications Consultant Mairi Feeger said: “UN first started in 1945 straight after the world war two when all the countries came together and formed it so October 24, marks 70 years.” Feeger was accompanied by Emma Powan, Programme Specialist – UN Populations Fund. Powan said UN was a big organisation which is older than PNG and has 193 countries signing under which PNG is one of them. UNPNG has 15 organisations which United Populations Fund is one of them. Others are responsible in certain areas which they rollout programmes, make donations, conducts trainings and give awareness to ensure betterment in a person’s life and nation as whole. She said the organisation which she works under runs: Tok out Tok stret programme, peer education, maternal health and others.
