Education Secretary Uke Kombra has presented awards to the 2016 top 10 academic performing schools in the country.
These schools are St Charles Luanga Secondary (NCD), Jubilee Catholic Secondary (NCD), Marianville Secondary (NCD), Cameron Secondary (Milne Bay), Oksapmin High (West Sepik), St Ignatius Secondary (West Sepik), Mercy Yarapos Secondary (East Sepik), James Chalmers Memorial Suau High (Milne Bay), Gordon Secondary (NCD) and Bishop Leo Secondary (East Sepik). Also the top 10 best performing schools in 2016 - Grade 12 are Kerevat, Port Moresby, Marianville, St Ignatius, Sogeri, Wawin, Passam, Aiyura, Gordon and Cameron. Two secondary schools Lae Secondary in Morobe and Muaina Secondary in Chimbu have improved academic performances for Grade 10. St Paul’s Lutheran Secondary in Enga stood out as the most improved school in academic performance for Grade 12. Dr Kombra said for the first time, the department has awards the Secretary’s Awards to the schools which reportedly did well academically and those that improved to inspire those that are not doing so well. These awards will be an annual event. "Government and school principals and parent want to see every child succeeds and receive good education for better future," he said. Dr Kombra said by next week the department should have a final listing for Grade 11 students, which in turn will be sent out to provinces.

success comes from hard work. However, it is hardly that alone, we must take a step forward and look at all the components of quality. Remember quality reaps only quality.
