Hundreds of students registered under the Morobe FODE tutorial program in Lae have missed out on their national examinations.
Frustrated students told the media that the delay is uncalled for as all other schools have already sat for the national examinations. The Morobe provincial government committed around K10 million towards this private tutorial program for the next three years. Students attending this FODE tutorial course in Lae were told that their examinations would be ready next week. It has been prolonged for the past three weeks. All they want is an answer on whether the examinations will be legitimate in guaranteeing a grade 10 or 12 certificate. The FODE tutorial program first started in April this year by former teacher Sharon Mathias, from Eastern Highlands Province. There have been several questions surrounding the establishment of this tutorial program, involving senior education officers and the Morobe provincial government. The Lae community college and the Immanuel Lutheran School are the only two recognised institutions registered under the national FODE program. It was alleged that this tutorial program was a duplication of the existing provincial centre. The Morobe provincial government has also committed a total of K10 million to have the program rolled out in the province. The delay in examinations was blamed on the late start of the tutorial program. A teacher who wished to remain anonymous said the examinations are only done once and cannot be delayed. The termination of former Morobe education advisor Murika Bihoro and investigations into the provincial education office are just of the many problems faced by the education division in Morobe.

Its unfortunate that this media reporting is truely baised and misleading people to believing what is actually not tru. The reporter should confirm with myself as the Principal to published this news. information given are of self interest and are geared toward defaming the good intitiative of the Morobe Provincial Government. 1. incorrect fact is MPG thru PEC approved annual funding of K2 million & not K10 million as claimed. 2 FODE Tutorial Program is the initialtive of the Morobe Provincial Administration. 3. I am a consultant engaged on a 2 year contract to establish the program. Fyi FODE Tutorial Program recently established Electronic Leaning in April 2016. We need your support we cannot continue the tradition way of delivery distance education services as printed learning materials is very costly. PNG SHOULD CONSIDER E_LEARNING from elementary to university? Too much money is spent on printed curriculum materials. I suggest World Bank should consider supporting this good initiative instead of investing in internent printing eg vanimo. This project will fail if the Vanimo Centre is not supported with its TFF operational costs. Thanks smathias FODETIP Morobe
