A BRAWL broke out during graduation at the Tusbab Secondary School in Madang on Sunday.
The fight started between two Grade 12 male students and soon turned into a brawl when other students and their supporters joined on three separate occasions while graduates were queuing to receive their certificates. There were no major casualties but a few ended up with red and swollen faces. Kuima Security guards at the school and some parents helped to quell the situation before police arrived 30 minutes later. A total of 385 Grade 10 students and 228 Grade 12 graduated with attainment certificates at the school’s James Marape Hall. School principal Alphonse Aiga said: “I thank the good parents for their continuous support for assisting in the development of this school.” Madang education director Moses Sariki said the students performed well in their examinations and many would be selected to continue at universities or on to Grade 11. ‘’You are among 70,000 Grade 12s and 69,000 Grade 10s in the country who set for the national examinations this year, and I congratulate you for this,’’ Sariki said. He encouraged parents and those who would not continue to seek other opportunities to pursue their studies. He thanked parents who marched into his office early this year to push for another Grade 11 class, which boosted the school roll. “I thank you for the challenge you gave me and I ask for your support of this growing school,’’ he said. Sariki said Rai Coast High School would be getting its first Grade 12s next year. Comments are closed.
