A SOLOMON Islands government official is pursuing a Master’s programme at the Divine Word University in Madang to help him in quality research of laws and bills in his country.
Liam Sau recently enrolled in the university’s two-year programme through the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences’ flexible learning programme. As editor of Hansard in the Solomon Islands Parliament, Sau intends to use the skills acquired from the programme to enhance his work. The first two units he undertook are professional ethics and advanced research methods. “Some of the information and findings are quite important and sensitive,” Sau said. “Deciding when to disseminate such information, to whom and when, requires knowledge in professional ethics.” Sau is able to study part-time through the flexible learning mode while performing his role. Vice-president for Research and Postgraduate Studies, Associate Professor Maretta Kula-Semos said post-graduate studies in such programme were aligned with the university third decade strategic plan (2016-2026). “DWU is offering full-time masters programmes this year to also give international students the opportunity to study full time.” Zainab Olabisi Tairu from Nigeria is also enrolled in the Master of Research Methodology programme and is now studying full-time in Madang.
