TELIKOM PNG is encouraging schools to help teachers, staff and students to increase their knowledge through the internet.
Telikom, through the Telikom Foundation Inc, is going to schools and encouraging principals, boards and teachers to use the internet. Staffs at the Telikom Highlands regional office in Mt Hagen visited Mt Hagen Park Secondary School and met principal Tony Buldung and staff. It was to see how best the school can connect to the Telikom internet services by using the cheapest rate. Telikom Highlands regional manager Pang Pawa, sales manager Highlands Simon Kama, Datec Mt Hagen branch manager Bernard Isaac and Telikom staff met staff and teachers. Kama said under the foundation, Telikom would clear unwanted sites such as Facebook and pornographic sites. “We are living in a modern world where technology is very important to connect the world,” Kama said. “A student can do research on a particular subject and learn online in advance while the teacher can repeat the same lesson after some days or months later in the classroom.” Pawa told the staff to promote literacy through the internet and raise learning standards. He said the first step was to get connected. “This internet service will be filtered and meant for learning alone with all subjects installed,” Pawa said, adding that its vital for schools.
