THE boards of governors in schools must have rules to discipline students involved in school fights, according to acting education secretary Dr Uke Kombra.
He said the board members were the authority to oversee the functions and management of schools including student discipline, teachers, learning facilities and other requirements of the institution. Kombra said schools must set their own rules, the provincial education board set a common rule and national education board provided general guidelines. “Therefore school governing councils must never compromise with those few students who behave unethically causing disturbances to others’ academic performance. “Governing councils must be creative to develop strategies on how to identify those problem students and discipline them based on their school rules.” He said schools needed strategies to identify problem students and how to discipline them based on magnitude of their errors.
