A FORMER Catholic priest in Papua New Guinea, who owns a number of business establishments, is offering one full scholarship programme to a high-achieving student who wishes to become a future business leader by studying at a university in the Philippines for free.
Joseph Martin Chow is funding the Joseph Chow Sun Yau, Future Leaders Scholarship, to continue his service to PNG. Chow was born in Rabaul. He used to set up schools and medical centres in Milne Bay through his missionary work as a priest. Now, he works as a successful businessman who continues to dedicate most of his time and energy in making the community better. This scholarship is one of Chow’s ways to help PNG and its people progress through education. This aims to develop the youth to be capable of creating jobs to improve lives, and contribute to the growth of the human resources for building up the nation of PNG. The chosen scholar must have the strong leadership skills and the willingness to serve PNG and its people. The scholarship is awarded to the student who wants to take up a business major, and may choose to study at the University of San Carlos or at the University of the Philippines – Cebu College. The scholarship runs through Paradise International Education Consultancy (PIEC), an education placement organisation based in Cebu City, Philippines. PIEC has placed more than 430 PNG students to universities, colleges, and flying schools in the Philippines since 2012. The Chow family has been in PNG for five generations and has contributed much to building the nation. The scholar will be given the same services as those full-fee paying students who use PIEC’s services which covers the airfare, tuition fees, accommodation, allowance, text books, education placement and enrollment, orientations, study skills seminars, visa assistance, and tutoring and pastoral care. The scholarship opens one slot for the academic year 2015-2016 which starts on the second week of June. Interested applicants are required to pass their application form, application letter, transcript of records, birth certificate, diploma, and other certifications to info@sunyauscholarships.org or log on to www.sunyauscholarship.org for more information.
