JEREMIAH Dunar Toni was in grade-school when he started to dream of becoming a pilot. Since then, the young boy became attracted to flying.
Now at 21, Toni is a private pilot licence holder and is up for the challenge and the thrill of becoming a commercial pilot with the support of his parents and the training of Royhle Flight Training Academy (RFTA) in the Philippines. Jerry, as how his family and friends call him, comes from Lae. He finished Grade 12 at Lae Secondary School and completed a diploma in Information Technology at IEA College of TAFE. Determined to fulfill his pilot dream, Toni travelled to the Philippines to study through the education placement services of Paradise International Education Consultancy (PIEC). Toni started his training in November last year and was in awe after seeing different kinds of aircraft. “When I started my training, I knew that I made the a perfect decision to study overseas and fulfill my passion. The school is a perfect training ground for future pilots,” Toni said. Often, he hears the captain’s voice every time he’s buckled into his seat and the cabin’s loudspeakers come to life. A few years from now, he sees himself flying a plane, hearing his own voice saying “Hello, this is your captain speaking. Welcome aboard.” He said his parents were his inspiration in pursuing his dream and that he would not disappoint them. Today, Toni is doing his commercial pilot training and prepares to take the exams to finally get a commercial pilot licence. “I can’t wait to fly above the skies and take passengers safely to their destinations. I am a proud soon-to-be Papua New Guinean pilot,” he said.
