A SCHOOL in Rai Coast, Madang, faces an early closure if it does not receive K232,650 as the second payment of its allocated subsidy this week.
Rai Coast High School principal Ernest Saweang said the first subsidy last year of K641,477, was paid correctly into the school account. But the second subsidy for 2012 and the first allocation for 2013 were wrongly paid into the account of Transgogol High School. “I am wondering how this can be so after numerous correspondences by provincial education coordinator Boniface Rukain, myself and Transogol principal Ben Tamilong on the matter,” he said. An officer in charge of the education subsidies, Lausi Kave said yesterday she was aware of the problem and was investigating why no correction was done in the system. Kave assured the school that they would get their payment this week. She said Transgogol High School had received its full subsidy but she did not understand why the system did not “reject” transactions made to the wrong account.
