TEACHING Services Commission chairman Baran Sori says provincial education advisers are responsible for the employment of teachers and must ensure teachers are appointed in positions and get paid.
Sori said this following media reports published in the two dailies yesterday on teachers’ pays, salaries, allowances and entitlements. “Anyone who talks about teachers not paid well needs to do research, find facts before coming to media for public information. “What we are experiencing now is the administration, management and disbursement of salaries and entitlements, this is the problem.” Sori said out of the 52,000 teachers in the country, there were teachers coming to Waigani because of queries. “It is not an easy job to deal with this kind of situation, it is quite complex because there are different system operators doing the job. “The Department of Education and TSC are the end process of the administration and disbursement of teachers’ salaries. “The start of the process is the PEA (provincial education adviser) because he/she is responsible for the employment of teachers and ensures they are appointed on a position and paid,” he said. Sori said all documents coming to the DoE and TSC must be done complying with the processes and procedures of appointment so that entitlements attached to positions were paid.
