THE standard of the education system in the Southern Highlands will be among the top 10 best in the country with Governor William Powi’s.
"My vision is to make the health and education system in the province among the top 10 in the country by 2017 and I’m determined and will achieve the goals as I have taken stock of every needs. "The government prioritised education and has made free tuition fee for all students while my government has gone a step further to improve the education system in the province. "I am not just looking at the infrastructure aspects of the education system alone but taking a holistic approach of looking at the teaching and learning aspects like the curriculum, the teacher quality, the infrastructure and the children’s welfare. "I have clothed the students from elementary to Grade 12 and vocational and technical colleges. I will bring in specialist science and mathematics teachers from India and Sir Lanka starting 2015 while improving the quality of other serving teachers. "So under my stewardship, I will take Southern Highlands to the destination safely as I have direction that is mapped out and not crash landing here and there as happened before where the province was run on an ad hoc basis. "However I urge the public servants to help me captain the province well by implementing the policies on the ground as I will make funds available," he said.
