The Papua New Guinea Teachers Association is calling on the Government to ensure teachers salary increases have to be paid by the end of September. PNGTA National General Secretary, Ugwalabu Mowana made the call today, following an agreement signed between PNGTA and the State last year. Almost 2.2 billion kina was earmarked in the 2017 national budget for teaching service personnel emoluments bill. According to the 2017- 2019 Teaching Service Salary Fixation Agreement, teachers were entitled for a 3% increase in their salaries dating back to January. However, according to Mr Mowana, this has not been the case for teachers across the country for the last eight months. The Association is giving the State and the teaching Service Commission till the end of next month to fulfil the agreement. NBC News
