Teachers around the country may soon expect an increase in their pays. This is anticipated to take place once negotiations between the PNG Teachers Association, the Teaching Service Commission and the Department of Personnel Management are completed successfully. Education Minister, Nick Kuman told Parliament that they have completed negotiations for the salary increase, entitlements and conditions of teachers recently and are waiting for the government to make a decision on their deliberations. "It is just awaiting the Government to make a decision on the overall quantum of the pay rise throughout the country. "That's the only thing that we are awaiting." Minister Kuman was responding to a series of questions by the Member for Jimi, Mai Dop, regarding the delay in implementing 13 recommendations made by the Parliamentary Referral Committee on Education, also referred to as the Ganim report. The committee's finding and recommendations on teachers salary and entitlements was presented in Parliament in August 2014.

This agreement between the government and the PNGTA is long due. The government should look at it as soon as possible is the election is nearing and we might have a new government which might not honor the agreement.
