The Health Department has been blamed for the exodus of qualified health educators at church institutions for greener pastures.
A lecturer at a church-run institution said his colleagues were frustrated because the department was inconsistent is processing their salaries. The lecturer, who did not want to be named for job security reasons, had not been paid for three pay days in the 2015 academic year and was hanging in but three colleagues had indicated they were moving on. He said that the Health Department had failed to pay lecturers and tutors at the church-run schools while their counterparts at the four nursing colleges enjoyed their timely perks and privileges. He said lecturers and tutors of church-run general nursing and CHW Colleges have been experiencing delays in receiving their regular fortnightly salaries since February 2014. "This is ongoing for over a year now and is still continuing now," he said. "We are not always paid after two weeks of working days as deserved to; but are often delayed for unknown reasons. "These delays can take up to four weeks before the Department of Health processes our salaries. At one stage last year we were paid at the beginning of fifth week." He said they were told by salary section of Health Department that the salary was delayed for various reasons. "Often they tell us that the delay was due to technical problem between Bank South Pacific and the Finance Department and the technicians are still working on the problem, or the ink ran out and unable to print the cheques or it was due to the installation of new software system in the finance section of the department. "Or the cheques were before the BSP waiting verification. "And this issue is constantly being faced by the church-run health Institutions. Most of us are already annoyed at the manner we’ve been treated so far." Post Courier
