Papua New Guinea Education Minister Nick Kuman has thanked the European Union for funding the second phase of the human resource development programme.
He said the programme added value to the work done by the Government in developing skills training in schools. Kuman said the Government wanted citizens to participate in industries which required skills. He said developing human capital was a challenge and such programmes supported the Government’s efforts to achieve it. “The challenges for Papua New Guinea is to examine the improvements in the goal development policy to sustain improvements in the lives of all citizens,” Kuman said. He said without developing human capital, PNG was unlikely to achieve its goals. Kuman said improvements to quality outcome in education and training system were key factors to human resource development. Under the programme, 10 vocational schools will have new school facilities, an upgrading of teachers and improvement to the management of vocational, education and training (TVET) centre.
