THE PNG Education Department will introduce the national curriculum statement and standards framework taskforce to improve the quality and effectiveness of education in the country.
Education Minister Nick Kuman said the framework would outline the minimum standards that a child must achieve in each subject in each grade (elementary prep to grade 12). He said a task force of curriculum and subject experts and practitioners would be established to review and update the National curriculum statement and develop the National standards curriculum framework. “A set of measureable standards will also be developed for teacher education programs to measure teacher efficacy as well as the quality of teacher education provided by all teacher education institutions,” he said. He said curriculum standards would be set according to these learning pathways; Mathematics and Science, English and Literature, Vocational skills and training and Moral and Ethics. He said this would provide a platform for assessing teaching and learning and also measure the relevance of inputs and quality of outcomes in the education system.
