STUDENTS from Solomon Islands and Vanuatu who left University of Technology during the protest will pursue studies at Fiji, Vice-Chancellor Dr Albert Schram says.
Schram said the students left Unitech after the killing and burning down of buildings at the Taraka campus. “These students left after a prolong protest that disrupted their studies and they will not come back to study here,” he said. He said the students from the two countries who left were funded by European Union through the Caribbean-Pacific Island mobility scheme. The scheme promotes sustainable development and poverty alleviation by increasing availability of trained and qualified professional manpower in the Africa, Caribbean and Pacific countries. Unitech Chancellor Sir Nagora Bogan said the university’s reputation as a leading university would diminish in the eyes of our neighbouring Pacific countries. He said the ongoing protest, destruction of properties and killing has tainted Unitech’s reputation since many international students study there.
